Character Ability System in Corsairs Legacy

In Corsairs Legacy, character progression is built around an ability system, where abilities unlock gradually and shape your playstyle - both on land and at sea.
All abilities are grouped into progression branches:

Land abilities - available from the start of the game

Sea abilities - unlock from character level 10
Each category contains 4 branches, and each branch includes 5 sequential abilities. Abilities within a branch unlock one after another and logically reinforce each other.
Land abilities
Land abilities govern deck combat, duels, stamina, and the character’s personal combat talents.
1. Offense
A branch for an aggressive playstyle, focused on maximizing damage output and pressuring the enemy.

Fighter — +5% to overall damage |

Expierenceful — the damage bonus increases to 10% |
|
Swordsman — +5% to bladed-weapon proficiency |
|
Critical Strike — +5% to critical hit chance |
|
Offense Focus — each hit on an enemy forces them to spend energy |
2. Defense
A branch for survivability, combat control, and reducing incoming damage.

Basic Defence — 2% damage absorption |
|
Advanced Defense — damage absorption increases to 5% |
|
Excellent Defense — damage absorption increases to 10% |
|
Concentration — 1% health regeneration per second if you haven’t taken damage for 10 seconds |

Defensive Focus — blocked attacks additionally drain the enemy’s energy |
3. Willpower
A branch that defines energy management, combat tempo, and the ability to outlast your opponent.

Deep Breath — +5% energy regeneration speed |
|
Breath Restore — the bonus increases to 10% |
|
Adrenaline Control — the bonus increases to 20% |
|
Second Breath — the bonus increases to 40% |
|
Rush — +10% to maximum energy pool |
4. Talents
Special combat talents that unlock new mechanics and combos.

Charge — each consecutive hit in a combo deals +10% damage (up to 50%) if you don’t use block, parry, or feint |

Heavy Handed — energy cost of attacks with medium and heavy weapons is reduced by 10% |
|
Clever Shot — +10% pistol damage |
|
Marksman — the pistol damage bonus increases to 20% |
|
Sharpshooter — a chance to kill an enemy with a single shot (not guaranteed) |
Sea abilities
Available from character level 10
Sea abilities affect artillery, boarding, ship handling, and navigation.
1. Artillery
A branch focused on improving the effectiveness of ship cannons.

Pointing — +10% to cannon blast radius |

Massive Cannonfire — close-combat bonus range increases by 10% |
|
Careful Handling — +5% cannon reload speed |
|
Professionals — the reload bonus increases to +10% |
|
Master Cannoneer — 5% chance to deal double cannon damage |
2. Boarding
Abilities that determine the effectiveness of closing in and crew-to-crew combat.

Positioning — your crew losses during boarding are reduced by 10% |
|
Ramming — collision damage is reduced by 20% |
|
Rapid Approach — maximum boarding distance +10% |
|
Interception — the boarding distance bonus increases to 20% |
|
Master Boatswain — at the start of boarding, the enemy loses 10% of their crew (not more than your crew count) |
3. Management
A branch for ship handling, repairs, and reducing losses.

Smuggler — +10% to cargo hold capacity |
|
Not a Breach — cannonball damage is reduced by 5% |
|
Mast Bracing — chainshot damage is reduced by 5% |
|
Doctor — grapeshot losses are reduced by 5% |

Master Carpenter — enables repairing the ship on the world map using planks and canvas |
4. Navigation
A branch for maneuverability, speed, and avoiding unwanted fights.

Feeling the Wind — +5% sea-mode speed |

Maneuvering — +10% ship turn rate |
|
Close to the Wind — allows sailing at a sharper angle into the wind |

Full Speed Ahead — the speed penalty from damaged sails is reduced by 25% |
|
Master Navigator — 75% chance to avoid combat if an enemy catches up to you on the world map |
